Transforming art into belonging
Our story didn’t start in a boardroom or through a grand strategic plan. It began in Hackney, around a simple garden table where a few immigrant artist friends gathered. We didn’t just need a place to create; we needed a space to belong. We needed a corner to share the quiet weight of navigating a new country, a new language, and a new life.
But what started with just a few of us didn't stay that way for long. Soon, our neighbors began to pull up chairs. One by one, local residents and fellow immigrants joined the circle, and what was once a small gathering grew every single day into a vibrant, living community. As our family grew, so did our movement; we began to transform every corner we could find—from borrowed library rooms to community halls—into a 'Creative Table.' We learned that a table isn't just a piece of furniture; it's any space where people feel safe enough to come together and create.
For years, without any external funding, we kept this vision alive through sheer heart and our own modest resources. We carried our mission with us, always with a pot of tea and a shared passion for the unifying power of art. Around those tables, we watched the word "stranger" slowly begin to dissolve. We discovered that while our languages might be different, our brushes and clay spoke the same tongue. We grew by holding onto each other, and that bond is the soul of the community we are today.
